Are chain cleaners better & cheaper than using kerosene or diesel?
Kerosene and diesel are not longer cheap as they use to be before. Also both of them contain additives which may be harmful to your chain O-rings or X-rings. They also don’t allow proper adhesion of the chain lube. Chain cleaner sprays use jet action to remove all the dirt & grime effectively. Chain cleaners will dry off quickly and will not leave any oily residue.
Should I do the chain cleaning on my own or get it done from a professional mechanic or service center?
Chain cleaning & lube is a very simple activity and can be done by the bike owners on their own. It should not take more than 15-20 mins to clean the bike chain & lube it.
How often should I clean the bike chain?
If you are a regular bike commuter you should clean your bike chain at least every month or every 250-350 kms whichever comes first. Depending on the conditions you ride your bike in and the type of chain cleaner you use, this period can vary.
